Thursday's Tell-all

This post is rated M (for Mango).

I read about the butt problems Puddles had over the weekend and decided maybe I'd tell you all about my... eh... private area problem that occurred this past weekend.
This view is missing a Corbin.
The momma and daddy-o went up to the lake this weekend and I stayed back with Heather and Emmett because it was super hot and my heart medications make it hard for me to deal with the heat.  Well, the momma missed me a super lot, so she decided she'd come home Sunday night for snuggles with the Corbin.  On her way home, her and Heather decided they'd treat themselves us to ice cream!  SCORE!
The Corbin LOOOOOVES ice cream.
(old picture bc mom didn't bring her camera on our ice cream adventure)
Emmett had never been out for ice cream before (WHAT?!), but I knew exactly what I was in for!  The line was quite long, so we waited patiently and got lots of pets and comments on how well behaved we were.  Well, that was until I got close to my ice cream!  I was so excited, I could hardly contain myself!  You see, the ice cream place we go to give you a milk bone at the top of your doggie cone!  YEA!  Awesomeness.

Ok, back on track.  So, we get our ice cream and we go sit to eat it.  I was all "nom nom nom ICE CREAM! nom nom nom."  Now... I'm a studly boy, as you all know, but I don't get... uh... excited easily.  But, something in that ice cream caused my inner manhood to get all sorts of happy!  While I was eating my ice cream, the momma got all embarrassed because I was showing everyone at the ice cream place what I was packin'.
"Mom. Put. The. Camera. AWAY"
One of the two times I've ever been photographed with my lip stick.
Can you blame me though?  Money Hunny was smokin'!
Most doggies get excited more often than me.  Like the Mango, he likes to show off his lip stick.  I'm a bit more conservative and have only shown it on few occasions and for short periods of time.  However, this time.... it wouldn't go away.  The momma thought I was just REALLY excited, but after about 30 minutes she started to get worried.

30 MINUTES!
I'm so ashamed.
What's a guy to do?  I was walkin' funny and everything and I couldn't get it to go away.  Right in front of my MOM!  Geez, the humiliation....  It was like that all the way home and the momma started to get all freaked out wondering what she should do to help me.  Ok, well that sounds gross... but she was thinking of non gross ways to help.  So, when we got home, she thought maybe it was just stuck... like maybe it had joined the party, but got dry and couldn't leave the party....

Ya know what she did?

She squirted my manhood with a squirt bottle!!!!!  Well, I guess it was better than throwing me in the tubby... I think she was mostly afraid that by lifting me into the tub -because I'd never go in willingly -she might touch the lipstick.

Anyway... it worked and the squirt bottle made my little dude shrink right back in where he belongs.
I can't believe I just told you about that....

And, in case you missed my post on Friday, here is all the information you're going to need!

A few months ago, I did a blog post titled "You call me a Pit Bull like it's a bad thing." I got a bunch of great responses from this post and it made me SO happy! My good buddy Pip commented that perhaps we could do a blog-wide Pitty Post day. This idea made my heart sing. Pit Bull Awareness Day isn't until October, and I was way too excited about this Pitty Post Day to wait until then!

So, what am I going to do about it?

Well, my birthday is June 4th. Because of my ouchies and my big heart, I can't play with my friends like I usually do for my birthday, so THIS year, I'm asking YOU to participate in the FIRST EVER Blogville Pitty Post Day! It would mean so much to me to see a lot of great positive pitty awareness going on the day I turn 3!

What are YOU going to do about it?

If you'd like to participate, on Monday, June 4th you'll do a positive post on your blog** about pitties (**If you don't have a blog and you'd still like to join in on the fun, you can email me your picture and a little write up and I'll feature you on my blog! Must be received by June 3rd). Now, you can come up with any idea that you would like. Here are a few in case you're drawing some blanks!
  • If you're a pitty, you can do a post about all the positive things you do for the breed or why you love being called a Pit Bull.
  • If you're not a pitty, you can post about why you'd WANT to be a Pit Bull!
  • You can blog about an adoptable Pit Bull in your area! And, if you're so inclined, maybe go visit that pitty in the shelter and give them some love and hope!
  • You can blog about your favorite Pit Bull friend, blog friend or real life friend!
  • You can blog about something positive that has happened in your area regarding Pit Bulls
  • You can blog about breed discrimination -if you're another breed that gets discriminated on, this might be right up your ally!
The list can go on and on! Whatever you think of, blog it on Monday, June 4th! Please email me at OhCuteCorbin(AT)gmail(DOT)com when your entry has posted. I will enter everyone's blog post into a drawing and pick ONE winner to win a super special prize for participating!

Wordless Wednesday: Scratch patch

When I had to get my spinal fluids checked, they shaved a spot on my butt.
Because of my prednisone, my furs are slow to grow back.
I call it my scratch patch because I love getting good scratches there!

Gearin' up

I've got my hopes up that I'll get the A-OK from Dr. Mike for a few trips out on the boat this year!  This is me last year.  I've got my gear all ready to go!  The Momma said it won't be until the water is warmer so I can float around all day... we'll see about that, Mom!  I'm ready NOW!

My vacation

So, the momma and daddy-o went away... without me... for an entire week.  Now, most dogs would be super upset and bummed out, right?  Well, I was a little mad, but also super excited because I got to spend the week with my buddy, Emmett!  Who do you think had a better week?
So, while mom and dad were in a place called Jamaica...

I was hangin' with my twinner, Emmett.

While they were laying in hammocks near the ocean...

Emmett and I were laying on top of Heather.

They watched the sun go down...

I watched the sun go down.

They used up lot of energy hiking Dunns River Falls...

I napped for their sake.

They enjoyed themselves...

I enjoyed myself.

They made lots of new friends...

and I've still got Emmett!

To tell you the truth.... I think I had more fun!

I walked for MS!

So, let me start the blog off with a negative experience -I know, I know, no fun for a Monday, but TRUST ME!  This blog post will end on a very positive note.

So, I'm hanging at the vets office last Thursday waiting for Dr. Mike to finish up my paper work.  This couple rounds the corner and I barked at them, so they asked if I was friendly.  The momma said that I was but I just like to talk - which I do.  So I was talking and licking their faces and hands while they pet me and it was super fun, right?  Well, the dude guy says to my mom "He's such a good looking dog and so friendly! What kind of dog is he?"  So the momma says "He's a pit bull." And Mr. Dude Guy, who was kneeling down petting me and letting me lick his face, stood up and took 3 steps backwards and wouldn't come near me again.  The nice lady kept petting me though and the momma told her how wonderful I was and that I was a canine good citizen and foster brother and it wasn't fair the people treated me differently based on my breed.
Mom, I wasn't done with his kisses.  Wtf.
It was a hard hit and the momma was pretty upset about it.  It's one thing for people to not approach me at all, but another thing entirely for me to be lovin' on someone and for them to react like that after they've been kissed by me!  But, the momma hopes he will at least think about that friendly brown goofy dog at the vets office the next time he hears the breed pit bull.

So, as the days have passed since Thursday, I have found myself feeling better and better.  Now, the momma signed us up to do a walkie for MS (Multipe Sclerosis) to support research on the disease and also someone the momma knows who has been battling this disease.  After my severe sickies last week, the momma decided she was going to do the walkie without me.  So, I kept showing her every day that I was ready to do the walkie!  I ate all my foods and gobbled up my medicines and finally Saturday night she said "Well, we'll see how you're feeling in the morning and what the weather will be like..."
Mom, I'm ready... let's do this!
Sunday morning came and I gave the momma lots of extra snuggles to warm her up.  She finally decided that I could come along!  I was so super excited!  So, she packed up my water dish and some treats and OFF we went!  The walk was just down the road from our house at my favorite park to go to walkies in.  When we got there, we met up with the momma's friend Ashley and her family, which included two little kids!  Avery is 8 years old and he totally loved me, and Blake will be 2 years old at the end of this month -so just a few months older than my Christopher!  I was such a good boy with the little kiddies.  I walked next to Avery a lot and he would pet me while we walked!  Cool kid, I tell ya!  I did steal Blake's bagel when it was all over with, but he forgave me.

There were lots and lots of people and I was very well behaved.  There were canes, walkers and wheel chairs - which I'm not used to seeing! The momma said it was a good experience for my therapy dog training - if we ever decide to do it.  So many people pet me and came up to the momma to tell her what a wonderfully well behaved dog I was and that I was the best behaved dog out of all the doggies that showed up to the walk!  They told her how great I was with the kiddies and how nicely I walked my mom on my leash and how I didn't care much about the other doggies walking -even though a few of them got right up in my face without being invited!
I'm an MS activist!
I am now a proud MS Supporter!  If you'd like to donate to our team, we'd really appreciate it!  Mom and I didn't raise any money yet, we just did the walkie to show our support.  We only did the 1 mile walkie because the momma didn't want me getting too tired out and over doing myself.
AND!  Guess what?!  We were just getting started on the walkie and part of my fan club were there too!  They were all "CORBIN!  SCOOBY!"  It was my furiend Mike and my grandpaw Jack!  They were there to walk to support MS too! It was all very exciting.  I can't wait until the momma signs us up to do another supportive walk!
Good boy restin' time...
Yippie for a great weekend!  Hope you all had a great one too!

Feelin' good!

Now, I know the title of this post made a lot of you happy!  Aw, heck, I'm sure it made ALL of you happy!  But, it's the truth, I'm feeling better.  Not my 100% Crazy Corbin better, but feeling better sure is better than feeling worse, even if it's just a little bit better.
Can you believe it?
My heart medicines have seemed to kick in really quickly and help me out a lot.  I've been sleeping better, more alert and all around more comfortable.  The momma even caught me snoozing ON the bed this morning while she was getting ready for work.  I haven't been willing to jump on her bed in a long time.
Lady, go away, I'm snoozin'
The momma had to go out and buy me a new pill box to hold all my new stuff.  The little box on the left is my old pill box, my new one is on the right. It's broken out by day, then by AM and PM.
Mom, there's still a little bit of room in here, can we fill it with treats?
Now, I went in to see Dr. Mike again last night.  He said my heart sounds very good, and he doesn't think my physical big heart will last forever.  Although, he knows very well that my figurative big heart will definitely stay with me forever!  He and mom decided that I'm going to slowly start coming off of the prednisone.  I get to go back to see Dr. Mike next week.  At the moment, we're going to leave my bumpie alone... it's in a spot that will be difficult to heal, and the prednisone will slow down my healing process even more.  So, Dr. Mike will check my bumpie every week, and if it's still around when I'm off of the prednisone, Dr. Mike might take it from me.  BUT, if my bumpie starts causing some issues before I'm off of the prednisone, he's going to steal it sooner.
Mom, do you think my bumpie will behave?
THAT, my friends, is the plan.  And, I'm A-OK with that plan because I'm feeling better already!  And he gave me the OK to do little walkies, so I'm excited for that!  AND he told mom that I can see how I do swimming when the time comes!  So, I'm super excited to start getting back to a somewhat normal routine... and super excited that I'll get to make it to the lake this summer!
Dreamin' of the lake!
So, in the mean time, I'm ging to enjoy my walkies, take lots of snoozes, eat up all my food, take all my medicines and keep feeling better!  Feels good to feel good!  Hopefully my feel goods will last forever and not just be temporary!

I have a big heart!

So, I had to stay at the vets yesterday... I really hate it when mom leaves, but everyone was super nice and kept calling me Super Star Corbee!  --even though they had to drug me up because I went a little cracker crazy when the momma left, BOL!  Anyway, Dr. Gordon wanted me to go back so I could see Dr. Clemente -he's a great vet in our area and the only one who performs stem cell surgeries.  But he's also a good heart doctor guy.  So, he used some wand thing and we were able to see my insides on a screen.  The wand thing showed that I have a big heart.  I told Dr. Clemente this was old news, but he said this type of big heart meant something other than being a lovey Corbin.  He said it means my heart is having a difficult time pumping blood through it.  He also said I was pretty young to have this type of issue... ya know, I haven't even turned 3 yet!!!
Corbin: 2 years, 10 months, 29 days
So, Dr. Mike stopped in to visit me on his day off and to chat with Dr. Gordon and Dr. Clemente about me.  They put me on two new medications -one that the momma let a growl out about because it's $170 a month.  But, anything for the Corbin.  Now, the big question is... what the heck happened to the Corbin's?  4 months ago, I was a happy, healthy, crackery, hyper, spaztic Corbin... now I'm a big hearted, bumpie havin', ouchie feelin' skinny Corbin.  Dr. Mike thinks that this heart issue might be caused by the prednisone I've been on to help control my ouchies.  He said it's not a normal side effect, as the prednisone doesn't typically effect the heart, but it can cause me to produce extra sodium, which would put more pressure on my heart to pump my blood.  So, he reduced my prednsone intake in hopes that will help.  The momma's gotta go out and buy me a bigger pill case!  But, he knows I'm a very strong, healthy Corbin normally... so he doesn't think this will be a life long heart issue, he thinks it's just another symptom of whatever it is that's wrong with me... enhanced by the prednisone.
I'm a big hearted lover, no doubt.
Anyway... so this morning I did find myself more alert.  I kept watch out the window for a bit, but then I got tired and took a nap.  The momma says my gums are looking better and Dr. Gordon gave her the "ok" to give me more food.  BUT the momma only increased my food by 1/4 of a cup -she always aires on the side of caution -slow and steady wins the race, or something like that.  But I'm also getting two scoops of canned food and when the momma leaves for work in the morning she gives me a bone or Kong that she's stuffed with canned food and treats and stuck in the freezer.  I'd rather have it Dad's way... where he just wants to give me the WHOLE can of food and like 87 cups of dry food.  Yep, that sounds like the way to go to me!!!  Oh well.
I may have gotten scrawny, but I can still protect my home!
I do go back to see Dr. Mike tonight.  He talked with the momma yesterday about stealing a piece of my bumpie... it would be a pretty simple procedure and a pretty easy recovery and it might give us an answer.  Dr. Mike is a bit concerned because my bumpie hasn't gone away - although it also hasn't gotten bigger.  But after 2 weeks, I still have some discomfort when he gets in there and pushes on it.  He says it feels like scar tissue, but we can't figure out what would cause me to have scar tissue there... Anyway, I'll let ya know what he says tonight and what we decide to do.
He's going to do what to my bumpie?!
I'd like to thank everyone again for the support.  It surely means a lot to me, and I know it helps the momma.  She's been super worried.  I did over hear her talking with Dr. Mike about taking me to Cornell University.  They're still holding off on that - mainly because I don't show any signs of pain when I'm at the vet -even with my big heart, as soon as I got to the vets my pasty white gums turned bright pink!  The only physical sign I've really shown at the vets is my weight loss and I flinch in pain when they play with my bumpie.  Otherwise, the momma is glad my vets trust her!  So, instead of going to Cornell -a teaching hospital where about 30 students would be poking and proding and feeling me up... we might go to another specialist a bit down state.  But we're going to explore my bumpie first, I think.  We should have a plan tonight!
Typing this was a lot of work... Time for a snooze.
Thanks again, everybody.  I love you all and hope to get better so everyone can stop worrying about me! :-)

Quick update

Corbin's momma here again.  Corbin is hanging out at the vet's office today for further testing.
Please, mom, don't leave me here!
Dr. Gordon was very worried about Corbin's pale gums and quietness - no matter how icky he's feeling, he's almost always a crazy dog at the vets.  She did an ultrasound of his abdomen to make sure everything looked okay - she was worried he might have a puncture in his spleen.  Everything looked normal -aside from a slightly enlarged liver, which is to be expected with his doses of prednisone.  She decided to take a glance at his heart and she noticed that it seemed to be enlarged.  She decided she wanted one of the other vets who is more familiar with heart issues to take a look at him, so he went in this morning and I'm waiting to hear what they found.
No wonder I have an enlarged heart... I'm a big time lover!
Although, the enlarged heart wouldn't necessarily explain the rapid weight loss.  Corbin weighed in at 61 lbs.  His normal weight is 70lbs, he was 68lbs a month ago when we went to the neuro specialist, 65lbs 10 days ago and 61 lbs last night.
Hard to believe my big macho muscle man is so thin... we even had to make his collar smaller because his neck has shrunk.  He has a lot of great vets looking after him and trying to figure out whatever it is that's causing all of these issues, although, Dr. Mike and Dr. Gordon don't believe the heart issue has anything to do with the ouchies he's been having.  Hopefully we'll be back with some good news, or at least a direction to head in tomorrow.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes for my boy...  it's been a long 3 months and we appreciate everyone's support!

Back to the vet

Corbin's momma here... Corbin has gotten very sick again.  His ouchies have come back - although, not nearly as often.  But the fact that he's still in pain on the steroid is worrysome.  He's lost a lot of weight and almost all of his muscle tone.  You can see his spine, hip bones and you can feel his ribs.  His gums are pasty white and he's very lethargic.  He's eating, drinking and going to the bathroom fine... so I guess that's a positive.  But, he's not our happy Corbin.

We were away on vacation last week -which I almost cancelled last minute.  I guess it took a week away from him to see how much he's really gone down hill.  He was fine while at Heather's, eating and drinking and not anxious or pacey, so I don't think any of this is/was stress related.  The weight/muscle loss started before we left.  Dr. Mike is afraid the pale gums are a cardiovascular issue, so we're heading in to Dr. Gordon - another vet that has been treating Corbin.

Please say a prayer for my boy.... The hardest part is not knowing what is causing all of this :-(
